Open the docket document that answers the question

To order a certified document from a located case, open Dockets, expand the relevant entry and select its image icon. First read the entry’s document description: a judgment, dismissal order or other disposition may answer an outcome question that an arrest affidavit or hearing notice cannot. Check the particular charge or count rather than inferring the result from the case title.

If the entry or image needed for your request is missing, contact the clerk with the case reference and exact filing sought. State whether certification is required and ask about available copy delivery. Do not substitute an unrelated visible image simply because it is easier to purchase. The certified-copy page provides the alternate mail and in-person routes.

Order a disposition letter when a local search is required

A certified criminal-history disposition letter reports the result of a local case-record search associated with felony and misdemeanor cases. It is different from a certified copy of one selected docket filing. The Criminal Court service page offers an online letter-request link, mail requests and in-person requests at district court locations.

Ask the recipient whether it wants that local letter, a specific judgment or a broader background check. Neither a Miami-Dade disposition letter nor a certified local case copy establishes a Florida statewide or nationwide clearance. Resolve the geographic scope before ordering so you do not pay for an authenticated document that answers the wrong question.

Use the correct criminal division and request details

The clerk’s mail instructions call for the defendant’s name, case number, case year, date of birth, appropriate payment and a self-addressed stamped envelope. Identify the letter or document requested and whether certification is needed. For felony requests, the listed destination is Miami-Dade County Criminal Division, Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building, 1351 NW 12th Street, Suite 9000, Miami, FL 33125.

For misdemeanor requests at the same building, use Suite 8100. The criminal service page also lists Suite 124 for traffic-related mail. Preserve the division shown on the case rather than using a general county mailing address. If the case number or year is uncertain, state the years to search and ask for the applicable total.

Allow for research charges and channel-specific payment

The Criminal Court mail instructions list certified copies at $7. Where the year or case number is unknown, an additional $2 per year, per name applies for each year searched. The general certified-copy page also warns that other service charges can apply. Confirm the total for the selected letter or document rather than treating $7 as an unlimited-history package.

Online payments accept Visa, Discover, Mastercard or American Express. Mail requires a cashier’s check or money order payable to Clerk of the Court and Comptroller. In person, cash, those cards, cashier’s check or money order are listed. Personal checks are not accepted. Use the instructions for your chosen channel and retain the request/payment reference for follow-up.

Resolve identity problems through the appropriate office

If you suspect somebody used your identity, the clerk’s Identity Issues page directs you to the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office at 305-547-0100. It states that the clerk cannot change names on original court records. This is different from clarifying which same-name search result is relevant; do not assume a request to edit a website entry can resolve the underlying identity issue.

For an unclear case entry or copy request, the clerk’s general contact number is 305-275-1155. Give the exact case and document reference, and ask about the official record when an online status appears incomplete. Juvenile cases are confidential; the certified-copy page routes those requests through mail or in person rather than the ordinary online order path.
